Restore from backup error: Error executing ntfsclone

I’m trying to restore a backup image. When I start the program, I just get “error executing ntfsclone” this is disaster recovery, there are no other images. I disabled SIP.

A couple of things to try:

  1. Try restoring to a disk image, and see if the restore completes. If it does, then the destination might have an issue
  2. Does the files show up after the restore?
  3. What is the size of the image? Was there any errors when creating the image?
  4. Was there any issues with the source?
  5. What version of Windows, macOS, and what type of Mac hardware?

I tried restoring to a disk image, and that completed successfully, and took ~35 hours.

The attempts at restore from the winclone file did not have any files show up.

The image is 200gb, and doesn’t seem to have errors. Windows 10, osx 10.13.3, MacBook pro retina from 2014. I am now currently run-in a ‘restore from the disk image’, but its on ‘analyzing source’ for ~2 hours now.

An update:

I’m running APFS, and time machine makes local snapshots. I disabled timemachine, removed all local snapshots, tried again, and the restore seems to be successful! Thanks for the help.

Not quite successful… Now in “System Preferences->startup disk” the bootcamp partition no longer shows up. And if I try to run the bootcamp partition in parallels, it just blue-screen of death, says there was a startup error. I certainly would like to get parallels working again with bootcamp.

If you start up with the option key for the Startup Manager, does it show there?
