Boot Runner 3 keeps getting deleted upon installation

Hi,

As you can see from the title, boot runner keeps getting deleted for some reason. I have Malwarebytes and Sophos Home for Macs. They might have something to do with the issue. I tried disabling them but the same issue kept happening.

Please help,
Thanks.

I was just about to log a bug that the installation appears to do nothing – except remove my original BootRunner2

Not that I’m super-surprised: Boot Runner 2 doesn’t show my Windows partition any more (though I’m currently booted into windows, using the maginc “option” key). And the email for updates is full of links which either don’t work (the link to forums has the msg:// protocol, not http://; the link to download takes me to a page telling me that the page I’m looking for doesn’t exist). It’s a comedy of errors.

I tried deleting both Malwarebytes and Sophos Home but still no luck with fixing the issue. Still waiting for a solution!

Can you forward the message with bad links to support@twocanoes.com? i have not heard of issues, and I get the same emails which seem to work fine.

Can you explain a bit more? After you install Boot Runner, please look in /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools and see if Boot Runner is there. If so, reboot and the check again and see if it is removed. If not, look and see if the LaunchAgent still exists:

/Library/LaunchAgents/com.twocanoes.bootrunner.plist

Removing this would prevent Boot Runner from launching.

Also, check console and see if there are any related message.

The files you asked about are all in their folders even after the reboot. But I still don’t get the screen where I can choose which disk to boot into. Also, I don’t know how to get to the configuration panel after I installed the new version.

I could not find the Boot Runner Config window after installing the new version. Where did it go? It was mentioned in the setup guide https://twocanoes.com/knowledge-base/boot-runner-3-setup-guide/

I have the exact same issue and bad links in the email that told me that I could update to BR3. I no longer have the computer icon in my top menu bar. The files mentioned are all there, but if I want to boot into my window side, I have to use the option key to get the boot manager (original).

We removed the menu bar item, and configuration profiles are now used for configuration. You can create them here:

https://profile.twocanoes.com

But the app didn’t work for my macbook pro 15”. The app interface does not show up when I turn on my mac. How can i fix this?

I created the profiles as per the instructions, but I still can’t launch the application.

Try logging out and see if you see a status box in the lower right corner or if the Boot Runner window appears.

I don’t see anything on the lock screen related to boot runner.

Try this:

  1. In the Finder, select the Go menu and choose “Go to Folder…”
  2. Type in /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/ and click Go.
  3. See if there is a “Boot Runner” application in that folder. If so, double click to launch it.
  4. To exit it, select the Mac volume.

If the application does not exist, try reinstalling Boot Runner and see if it appears.

If it does exist, try this:

  1. Open Terminal
  2. Type:
    cat /Library/LaunchAgents/com.twocanoes.bootrunner.plist

This is the item that starts Boot Runner automatically. It should print this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> Label com.twocanoes.bootrunner ThrottleInterval 30 LimitLoadToSessionType LoginWindow OnDemand ProgramArguments /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Boot Runner.app/Contents/MacOS/Boot Runner

Also, try turning off autologin:

  1. Go to System Preferences
  2. Select Users and Computers
  3. Click log and authenticate
  4. Click Login Options and set Automatic Login to Off.

tim

boot runner does exist.
when I click on it, it shows the screen that is supposed to be showing up when I turn on the computer.

This is what shows up when I put the command on Terminal

Automatic login is off.

The issue is still there. Boot Runner does not show up when I turn on my device or when I go to the lock screen or log out.

Sorry for the multiple replies but I could not include more than 1 image in one post for somereason.

Try running this in Terminal to get the last 2 days of boot runner logs:

log show --style syslog --predicate 'process contains[cd] "Boot Runner"' --info --last 2d

Here is what I got.
