How much extra space is required to restore Windows Partition? Winclone 8

I am migrating from a MacBook Pro 2017 to the new 2019 model, and have a Bootcamp partition that is 599GB by itself.

The Winclone 8 Backup is about 173GB,… so I created a partition on the new Mac at 620GB to allow some extra space.

The process failed, the last message being:
2020-01-23T23:58:05-05:00:Extracting file data: 287 GiB of 474 GiB (60%) done

I tried again with a 620GB partition but failed again too. That error was:
Extracting file data: 292 GiB of 474 GiB (61%) done, exitCode=46, NSLocalizedDescription=Restore failed due to lack of space or file issue. Please check available disk space or try block-based imaging.}

How much extra space should I have on the target (new) machine OR am I doing something otherwise wrong?

It could be related to a bad metadata on a file. I would recommend switching to block-based imaging in the preferences and trying the process again.

First, would the backup itself not fail if there was bad data?

Second, you are saying I can try again by changing the backup preferences to Block Based… is this in the App preferences on the Old machine?

Lastly, the first question: Do I need extra space on the restore target (the new partition) for expansion of the image when restoring?

Thanks!!

<> again please!

I set this over the weekend with even more space on the Partition!

The Process started like this:
Verifying integrity of “/Volumes/WinClone Backup/WindowsBackup.winclone/Windows.wim”: 0 GiB of 160 GiB (0%) done

… Continued to this:
Verifying integrity of “/Volumes/WinClone Backup/WindowsBackup.winclone/Windows.wim”: 160 GiB of 160 GiB (99%) done
Verifying integrity of “/Volumes/WinClone Backup/WindowsBackup.winclone/Windows.wim”: 160 GiB of 160 GiB (100%) done

Then Started the actual restore:
Applying image 2 (“disk0s3 (1)”) from “/Volumes/WinClone Backup/WindowsBackup.winclone/Windows.wim” to NTFS volume “/dev/disk0s4”
Creating files: 0 of 733040 (0%) done
Creating files: 500 of 733040 (0%) done
Creating files: 1000 of 733040 (0%) done

… and on and on until this:
Creating files: 733000 of 733040 (99%) done
Creating files: 733040 of 733040 (100%) done

… But finally… this!
Extracting file data: 298 GiB of 474 GiB (63%) done
le data: 298 GiB of 474 GiB (63%) done, exitCode=46, NSLocalizedDescription=Restore failed due to lack of space or file issue. Please check available disk space or try block-based imaging.}

I am trying again with Block Based imaging after tonight’s backup from the old machine. Any assistance is appreciated!

Did you send this into support as well? I believe responded there as well.

tim

Yes, I am also working with support. I am told there is some issue with the new MacBook Pro 16” and in particular with Catalina, due to new security requirements at Apple. (I have also contacted Apple… but it’s not their software).
