MDS - Installing Monterey on Intel Mac with Big Sur

Hello!

We hit an issue today when upgrading from Big Sur to Monterey on an Intel Mac.
We got as far entering the name of the machine, before the installer crashed telling us that sudo was not available:

The issue persisted after we ran internet recovery to reinstall the OS. Is this something you’ve seen before?

Do you have scripts set to run “Before packages are installed when running workflow” in the Scripts section of the Resource for your Workflow?

My first guess would that this error is because one of your scripts are running during this phase in Recovery where sudo is not available (all commands are run as root in Recovery anyways).

If this is the case and you intended this script to run in Recovery, you’ll need to modify the script to not call any commands that don’t exist in Recovery. If you didn’t actually want this script to run in Recovery, you’ll need to move the script to run at another phase in the Scripts section of the Resource for your Workflow.
