MDS not updating install volume

I’ve been revising my MDS packages & apps folder with new versions of apps. For example, I copied FireFox ESR 68 in place of 60 and an updated Google Chrome.

But, when I rebuild my install volume, the old versions of the apps are still present (packages with dates over a month old).

I’ve been trashing the old packages from the install volume, but I think MDS should be able to handle this for me.

When I roll out a new installer for Office, it has a different name, so that forces MDS to update the install volume.

Is there something I’m missing to automate this?

Currently, the syncing feature just compares the names. Doing a full hash on the contents would take too long especially over network connections. I guess I could look at the file sizes. I’ll look into it a bit.
