Mismatched block size, what to do now

So I’m trying to install bootcamp on an external USB 3.1 SSD, a Samsung T5. The block size on the drive is 512 and 4096 on my MacBook Pro (2017 running 10.13.3). I can’t get Windows to boot when I restore using block based imaging (the restore completes successfully), and the Winclone restore fails when using WIM based imaging.

What to do next? Am I dead in the water with this drive?

did you try saving the image first and then restoring? Or were you doing disk to disk cloning? what error did you get?
