Problem with squeeze / shrink functionality... no longer working as before

Question… : Problem with squeeze / shrink functionality… no longer working as before.

Early on in my tryout I used to be able to take a Raspbian image and use the compress/shrink/squeeze thing to get these images down to < 3Gb on my HDD as a saved *img.zip file. Now it is compressing hardly at all… I even further reduced the image by getting rid of a couple of major packages on the RPi and purge/cleaning… gparted shows a much smaller footprint. However, It WILL not compress. When I successfully took that 32Gb SD card and tried to squeeze the last partition, it would not compress and left me with a 32Gb file. I did sudo rpi-clone -F sda to and 8GB SD and it fit nicely… Boots perfectly. But SD-Clone will not compress it hardly at all. I wonder if SD-Clone is misinterpreting some filler space and not allowing full compression?.

Here’s some info:

Model: SD SC16G (sd/mmc)

Disk /dev/mmcblk0: 15.9GB

Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B

Partition Table: msdos

Disk Flags:

Number Start End Size Type File system Flags

1 4194kB 50.2MB 46.0MB primary fat16 lba

2 50.3MB 15.9GB 15.9GB primary ext4

Here’s what gparted shows:
