Winclone 5 won't create an image

Hello, I’m brand new to Winclone and I just purchased Winclone 5 for my iMac. I have OS X 10.9.5 and am running Windows 7 SP1 on Boot Camp. Everything is working fine right now but I’d like a proper backup of my Boot Camp partition.

The Winclone 5 software install was quick and painless. However, when I click on Save Image and choose a local folder within my User folder on my Mac’s internal SSD, I get an error dialog box almost immediately. The error dialog says:

Verify Failed!
Image creation failed time verify check. Try running chkdsk /b when booted in Windows to repair and try again. Error -20.

I ran chkdsk /b twice and it completed without complain after about 10 minutes on both occasions.

Tech observation: the first time I ran it, it saved an incomplete image file about 1.9GB in size before I got the error dialog. I deleted that file and rebooted. The next time I ran it, it save an incomplete image file Zero K in size. I deleted that file and rebooted. The time after that, it doesn’t seem to create an image file at all. I know I have full write privs to the destination folder on my Mac side. I don’t know if these details are useful but it may help to pinpoint the problem. Sometimes it is the craziest little thing.

I don’t see a lot of troubleshooting options at this point so I was wondering if someone could please help. Any advice would be greatly apprecaited.

Can you look in the log and see if it gives any error messages? Here is how to get to the log:

Hi Tim,

That’s a good idea. I will certainly do that when I have a chance. However, it might be a couple days before I will be back on my Boot Camp Mac. I will copy and paste the log results to this thread as soon as I have a chance. Thanks!

Hi Tim,

I have copied everything from the system log that appears to be relevant to Winclone 5. At first glance the log appears to state that the image was successfully created. However, you can see by the time stamps that it is only seconds for the entire process. As usual, I get the error message that I indicated in my first post. I hope this can shed some light on the problem so we can find a solution.

A couple of things to try:

Run chkdsk in Windows:

Upgrade to Winclone 6 and see if that works better. If it does not, I’ll refund your purchase.

I ran chkdsk /b a couple times but it did not help with the Winclone 5 problem.
Since Winclone 6 will not run on OS X 10.9.5, I will have to upgrade my Mac OS before I can try Winclone 6. I will speak to my IT person with regards to this. I hope to have a solution before the end of the week.

I had the same issue with Winclone 5, I got around it by using a disk the same size as the entire partition not just the Windows one, then made sure that nothing else was on the disk i.e. Time Machine backups, I had both, then Winclone kept failing when I was trying to backup, so I changed to a dedicated disk for just the Winclone, and this seemed to resolve the issue, I have no idea why, but it worked for me. Hope it helps you out.
